LUNCH BREAK: QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
Join us virtually with your lunch for a quick and casual discussion about quality improvement!
From the discussion facilitator, Dr. Saumitra SenGupta:
The concept of quality improvement originated from manufacturing industries and has now become commonly used in education, healthcare, human services, and many other areas in which program evaluators work. Performance improvement is another term commonly used and can be a part of the organizational or service delivery system’s quality improvement efforts. During this lunch break, we will discuss some of our experiences bridging the gap between program evaluation, quality improvement, and performance improvement. We will see both the common elements and the differences between these approaches. No quality or performance improvement efforts are complete without evaluating their progress and impact.

Questions to think about ahead of time: In your field of work, how do you distinguish between Quality Improvement, Performance Improvement Projects, and Program Evaluation, or do you? Please feel free to think about any confusions or struggles in defining or distinguishing these. In your work, what role does quality improvement play? Have you ever been a part of a performance improvement project? If so, please describe briefly. How do you evaluate your own organization’s or your client organization’s quality improvement and performance improvement efforts? Discussion hosted by Dr. Saumitra SenGupta, former executive director of California’s External Quality Review Organization (www.caleqro.com) for mental health and substance use disorder services, and currently a senior consultant and special advisor.
